A look back at this incredible pitch experience with @yomidenzel!
After seeing a call for applications on the Yomi instagram story, which was looking for entrepreneurs with innovative ideas, I decided to give it a go! All you have to do is fill in a form, so why not!
His team responded 15 days later: I've been selected! See you in Paris for the filming of the short content that will appear on its various social networks. The only watchword: be ready to pitch in 30 seconds max 👀
At Venice, we're still novices at this. We've pitched our projects before, but not really in a structured way, and even less in front of an entrepreneurial pro! I know the strengths of our concept 💪🏻 but we still have to demonstrate them effectively in 30 seconds!
D-day, Paris, near the Opéra, a magnificent district, and already around fifty people are gathered around Yomi. I soon spot a bodyguard, a cameraman, but above all the entrepreneurs who are practicing like boxers, pacing back and forth, reciting their pitches in low voices. The aim is to relieve stress! I realize how important this exercise is for projects like Venice Weights. Yomi can bring a lot of visibility and a certain amount of validation from the entrepreneurial community, but you can't afford to miss out - your company's image is at stake!
I approach an entrepreneur to find out how the event is organized, and he tells me that the concept is simple: we go two by two and it's a pitch battle! The winner gets €100, with Yomi Denzel choosing the best pitch.
It's no longer a laughing matter, as much as I see the €100 as a small bonus, a pitch battle rewards the preparation and motivation of the entrepreneur to present his project! From now on, it's impossible for me to lose: I'm going to give it my all.
The battles begin, and I realize that some projects go beyond the small business that is Venice Weights, and are real start-ups, some having already raised funds and hundreds of thousands of euros in sales. Will I be able to compete? We'll see. While I'm waiting for my pitch, I'm building it up in my head, refining it to make it as clear and impactful as possible.
It's my turn, in front of fifty people, I'm the second to pitch against my opponent (@Igor_sanou for @workelite) who makes a very good pitch, I clear my head and concentrate on the objective and my ideas. In 30 seconds I manage to present the Venice Weights molds quite clearly I think, without stuttering, even if I forget some arguments along the way...
Yomi takes over again and pauses to decide the winner, finally lowering the microphone in my direction to let me know that I'd won the battle! Unbelievable! I win the €100, but I'm especially pleased with my pitch! He congratulates my opponent and me and tells us the reason for his decision.
After the battle, I decide to stay put, out of respect for the other entrepreneurs but also to satisfy my curiosity and discover other great projects. I share with entrepreneurs (@lacapsulepodcast & @kevin.cirille) and, exchange instagram follows and give more details about Venice Weights. I've had a lot of positive feedback, which boosts motivation!
